Solo trip

Dungeness is like nowhere else I’ve been before, a small desert of shingle and ruins on the Kent coast. Lying in the shadow of the power station, boats and nets and train lines track a tangled path over the mountains of stones, eventually reaching the sea. Having planned my trip around this beach, I was prepared for Dungeness, but not for the county it sits in. One of the most beautiful parts of England, it is flat and scattered with the ruins of old farm buildings and crumbling houses. The roads weave through nature reserves and salt marsh, the sea reappearing as you curve around the coast. I’ve wanted to do a trip by myself for a few years, and I’m so glad this was the place I chose to visit first. I’ve collected some of the photos I took of Dungeness, Rye Nature Reserve and the surrounding area in this post.
